I l..."Virtual community" is endlessly fascinating. I love the discussion of pros and cons in the article.<BR/><BR/>The whole "metaverse" coming into focus freaks me out a little. I first read about its potential in Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, still a great read, which foretold not just Second Life but also the collapse of religion into drug-like ecstasy shown in the rise (should I say revival??) of evangelical speaking in tongues in the past few years.<BR/><BR/>Now, I'm hearing about Second Life through Community Planners (Planning Magazine had an article) and Urban Designers (who are bemoaning the lack of public gathering places that can foster/support quality interaction and community building).<BR/><BR/>It's a paradigm shift that could have huge implications across the board.
