Beginning Again

I learned to Blog during my sabbatical, and the resulting Sabbaticalblogging grew up over four months. And although the sabbatical, like all good things, has come to an end, Sabbaticalblogging as morphed into iMinister....a place where I can express some of the thoughts and opinions that don't fit neatly into the more public parts of my ministry.

I just wonder who elected you to minister?

What credenduals do you have?

Do you have any documents singed by God himself/herself?

I just wonder how can anyone elect themselves to be a spokesperson for an invisible diety?

I suppose you've never considered these questions?

I also suppose that you've never considered that had you been born in Iraq, that you would be a full fledged Muslim right now, do think that you would have elected yourself as a minister of Allah?

Maybe it's recognition that you seek, maybe it's approval from others that you seek, could it be the love that was missing from your parents that you seek, and substituting that love for a false diety or religious title?

Have you ever been honest with your real self, really?

Goodness, Ben, did you get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning? But just in case some of your questions are real, I'll answer them.

My congregation elected me to minister to them. It's a sacred trust, and with God's help, I do the best I can. I have some degrees and training of course, but the only God available is in my heart and the heart of those I serve so there's no possibility of signed documents.

Of course I know that if I had been born in Iraq I'd be a Muslim...but since Muslims don't allow female religious leaders I'm glad to have been born here. And I don't think it matters a bit to the invisible God what names we use.
